Back on the horse (or should I say, couch)

Well 2 weeks away from the garden and now it's time to return to routine. I must say I like my routine, especially when surrounded by magnificent autumn colours.
Part of the jaunt away was spent in Canberra. Canberra is the most beautiful city in Autumn, so many beautiful trees getting ready for Winter. I think my garden has the edge though because it is not surrounded by high rise buildings.
Anyway, 2 weeks away and most of the autumn leaves are on the ground (and deck!) The ornamental cherry is particularly spectacular. The reds, yellows and browns littering the luscious green of a well watered lawn is gorgeous. Also 2 weeks away in Autumn means we don't come back to overgrown garden beds. The veggie patches are ready for a good sleep though.
One of the joys of time away is getting inspiration from others. My new 'to do' list includes investigating growing a pomegranate. If it grows in the harsh environment of central NSW, it can grow here. New ways to frame veggie beds and having another go at indoor plants are two more ideas forming at the back of my head.
Add them to my grand plan of getting better at propogating new plants, (in the words of that little known group, The Beatles, 'can't get much worse') my Winter will hopefully be busy. I must find tme to sit and think in front of the fire though!
Winter is my slow time in the garden. My time to enjoy the view through the window. My time to potter when the weather is kind, without the urgency of Spring. It's my equal favourite season, along with Spring, Summer and Autumn.
PS. I can't finish this blog without sharing how truly spectacular toadstools are here - just like the ones in fairy tales.
