Spring has sprung, the grass is riz (apologies to Anonymous)

So early October and it's Spring! September tried to be Spring but didn't put much effort into it. We did catch the occasional day that made us turn off the heaters and take off jumpers, but not many.

I must say October was worth the wait. Not only is the garden beautiful to look at, it smells glorious too. All are plants are springing (excuse the pun) back into life - flowers, trees, shrubs - oh and er, weeds. Ruprecht is on a mission to eliminate cape weed from our grass. He's doing OK too.

The second best thing about Spring is the increased activity of the birds. We have a wattle bird just about knocking on the door, requesting donations for its nest. I've got a feeling it's being built close by. The male birds have all put on their best suits and strut around the females as if to say, "hey gorgeous, come here often?" Of course, we also have testosterone abounding with all the posturing and posey fights with each other. I have yet to see a bird get hurt!

This seems to be the first year we are not flat out trying to stay on top of the garden. Where there was once weeds, there are now flowers. Weeding is no longer a 3 hour back breaking job. That's fortunate because my back is pretty well broken already. The veggie patch is responding well to a strict regime of weeding, watering, fertilising and the hydroponics are up and running again.

Something new! A pomegranate tree! Let's see how that goes. We saw one when we visited some friends in Yass and thought, hey if it can grow there, we must be able to grow one here! Fingers crossed.

I'm going out now to soak up the warmth of the day and tame some more weeds. The random patch for the day is the pond area. Tough job but someone's got to do it. Here's some pictures of the creeping grevillea doing a great job of growing and flowering.
