Still raining

I was hoping to be writing this in the fernery today, but Mother Nature thought otherwise. We have had a few days of rain after one tantalising day when it felt like spring. So this is the view out the window as I type from the comfort of a seat in front of the fire.

This week has been like the pre-season games of the bird world. The birdlife is much more active, even if the rain is putting a dampener on their antics. The wrens, blackbirds, wattles, doves, honey eaters and shrikes are all preparing for their spring-time jobs. Not so melodious but just as fascinating are the black cockies, crows and currawongs. Blackbird and his mate use our balustrade as their own personal path and hop along it rather than fly. I have a suspicion that there will be a nest in the diosma out front again this year.....not the most secure place in the garden. But, what with the personal path and dog food conveniently near by, why would you set up home anywhere else?

The grasses have either be bought or transplanted from unwanted spots around the garden, ready to be reassigned. They're loving this rain. Now if it would only stop raining long enough for us to plant them.

We have a couple of cute ringtail possums calling our carport home. We came home late one night and caught them in the rafters. It's like, if we stay really still the humans wont see us, even with those giant lights shining on us. We hear them running across the deck when we are in bed and they sound more like elephants than tiny possums.

It's frustrating to not get out into the garden but we have a gorgeous view from every window in the house and there's usually a bird or two putting on a show that keeps us amused. Yesterday we watched as they dive bombed and fluffed themselves up in the purple bird bath, completely unaware that we had a ring side seat in the lounge room.
