The garden in the rain

For today's writing I took myself down to Maru. It is a wet day and I can watch the rain splashing off the pond's surface. Our fish are getting bigger and braver. As I write I listen to the chorus of frogs and watch the birds, mainly the wattlebirds, swoop low across the pond. We have seen them swoop down and take a quick dip, but not today.
Now I can hear our dove's cooing, the wattles singing and the occasional shrill from the wrens. Today we have been visited by currawongs, ducks and black cockies and our flowering natives are alive with small, nectar feeding birds.
It's not a good day for gardening but an absolutely perfect one for sitting still and enjoy its natural beauty. Ok, some of it has been coerced into shape by us but mother nature is well and truly in charge here.
I love the process of the seasons. We have had a hint of spring, but now are right back to winter........ rain, overcast, cold but not freezing. The winter flowers are out and the spring ones are getting ready to bloom. We already have blossom and yellow wattle. And the best thing about winter is that you can always settle in in front of a wood fire once you've enjoyed your garden.
That's where I'm heading now!
